Lunch Bunch

In 1993, Michael Castleman and i started having lunch together every Thursday at the Sanchez Cafe in Noe Valley. We kept it up, even during a six year period where I was only in San Francisco 10 days a month. Over time our little meeting was joined by others. By the early 2000's (after I had moved back to the city) there were six regulars meeting every week in downtown San Francisco near the Chronicle building. Along the way, there have also been lunches at baseball games and in Austin (TX), Cayucos (CA) and Ponce Sur Le Loire (France). Now that we are into our third decade our meetings are in the Mission District and there are usually eight to fifteen that show up; artists, writers, journalists, lawyers, cab drivers, teachers, scientists and a bail bondsman. The conversation is great, the friendships sincere and the wit devastating.
